Climbers delighted as wind farm plan ‘paused’

Scotland’s mountaineers say they are delighted a wind farm planned near Ben Wyvis will not now go ahead – but the farm’s developers warned they may well be back.
The Mountaineering Council of Scotland (MCofS), which represents climbers and hillwalkers, welcomed news that ABO Wind UK Ltd had withdrawn a planning application for five wind turbines at Woodlands Farm near Dingwall, Ross-shire.
The MCofS objected to the plan in January this year, citing the “completely unacceptable” visual impact on the scenically important area north of Inverness.
MCofS chief officer David Gibson said: “Developers should take note that any future proposals which encroach on Ben Wyvis and its surrounds will be fought by the MCofS, and by other organisations and many individuals throughout Scotland and beyond.”
Livingston-based AOB said it had “paused” on the proposal, particularly in light of an objection from Government agency Scottish Natural Heritage.
Clark Crosbie, of AOB, said: “The feedback we have received has indicated a number of technical and other issues that could impact on the commercial viability of the site.
“Therefore we have withdrawn the existing application and will consider our position once we have fully reassessed the technical and commercial dynamics of the site.”
He added that following the reassessment they might reapply.
