Frankfort energy rebate planned, if wind project moves forward

The company behind a proposed wind farm in Frankfort says they’re prepared to offer a rebate to residents.

Eolian Renewable Energy, a New Hampshire company, announced a partnership Tuesday with the Eastern Maine Development Corporation, a local non-profit.

Company officials say if the Waldo Community Wind project moves forward, residents will be able to claim a portion of $50,000 to offset home energy costs.

The money, set aside as community benefits package, will be divided by the total number of eligible households.

In August, Frankfort residents asked the board of selectmen for a November ballot question that, if passed, would repeal the town’s wind energy ordinance and replace it with a new set of rules.
