Planning permit application lodged for Bulgana wind farm

An international renewable energy company has lodged a planning permit application for a new $500 million wind farm east of Stawell.

If approved, the proposed 67-turbine Bulgana wind farm, near Great Western, would be the first project of its kind in the Northern Grampians Shire.

The council says the application, including a map of the proposed location, will be available for public viewing from next Monday.

A spokesman for the Bulgana wind farm, Brett Thomas, says while the Renewable Energy Target review is concerning, it has not completely put the company off its plans.

Other companies have put their projects on hold because of the review but Mr Thomas says the company is trying to take a long-term approach.

“We are like everybody else, we believe that the Renewable Energy Target must stay in place to support these projects,” he said.

“We just believe that this particular project’s a good project.

“We’ve put a lot of work into it, we think it’s going to have great benefits for the economy and now’s the right time to put it in front of council and the community to consider it.”
