PICTOU – County councillors will vote Monday on whether to accept an amendment to wind turbine bylaw.

A public meeting was held earlier this week at the Plymouth Fire Hall to hear the public’s opinion on a county bylaw amendment that stipulates that wind turbines must be placed 1,000 metres from the nearest residence unless all residents in the affected area agree that the setback can be 600 metres.

About 50 people attended the meeting and nine people spoke on the issue. This has been an ongoing topic of conversation at county council meetings for the past few months.

County residents asked the planning advisory committee to consider a setback of 1,500 metres from homes, but the committee recommended this distance instead.

Council will vote on the recommendation during its monthly council meeting Monday at 7 p.m.
