Industry relief at Scotland decision

GERMANY: Senvion CEO Andreas Nauen said he had been nervous before the Scottish referendum earlier this month but was glad of the outcome, he told Windpower TV.

Nauen said the changing polls before the independence referendum in Scotland last week created “nervousness” in the wind industry.

“No one expected it to become that tight,” Nauen said at this week’s WindEnergy Hamburg event in Germany.

Voters in Scotland went to the polls to determine whether Scotland should become independent from the rest of the UK. They voted against the proposal.

“We need stability. Our lives are made extremely complicated by sudden changes, and that would have been an unexpected sudden change.

“We’re glad that decision by the Scottish voters was taken as it has been taken,” Nauen said.

Senvion launched two new modified versions of its 3XM series in Hamburg. Nauen said he is looking at Canada as a target market.

“So far [Canada] has been a 2MW market for us, we are putting all our efforts into developing an excellent 3MW machine that I think will be much more competitive,” added Nauen.
