Lower Loxley: Activists set to fight turbine appeal

Wind turbine activists are set to object to the most recent appeal to a planning application for a new turbine at Lower Loxley.

Uttoxeter Rural Parish Council along with the Uttoxeter Wind Turbine Action Group (UWTAG) are preparing their objection to the turbine at land south of Carry Lane, Lower Loxley.

Keith Flunder of Staffordshire Turbine Action Group (STAG) also confirmed STAG would be opposing the application.

A statement from Bramshall Against Turbines said: “Hallmark Power have now put in an appeal against the ESBC decision to turn down the Loxley Turbine.

“We shall work to fight this scheme as we have done with the Spring Farm turbine.”

Keith Flunder said: “We will be objecting to the Lower Loxley turbine as when you get one accepted you are likely to get more in the same area.

“They take up vast areas of the countryside with concrete, they look absolutely appalling and don’t offer much benefit in terms of power.”

Stephen Bate, developer of the proposed turbine at Hallmark Power Limited, said: “The main benefits of the proposal are the provision of energy from a renewable source, amounting to approx 1.3m kWh per year, which is the equivalent of providing electricity to 313 homes per year.

“Secondly, the turbine will make a suitable contribution to address climate change and to meet national renewable targets.

“The proposal will offset approx 559 tonnes of CO2 per year.

“As renewable energy developers, we acknowledge that the turbine proposal will have certain conflicts with council planning policy and with the views of local residents, in particular relating to the impact on landscape quality in the locality.

“However, we consider that those conflicts are limited and are outweighed by the benefits.”
