Citizens fight Rock Island Clean Line

Argus Leader | September 19, 2014 | www.argusleader.com

I am having a hard time believing that a number of South Dakota landowners are relying so heavily on the words of Rock Island Clean Line. This is a proposed line, and it is being fought heavily by thousands of landowners across Illinois and Iowa. RICL wants to take this line across more than 500 miles of private property and farmland.

They hope to get the right of eminent domain because after a year, they have been able to persuade only 10 percent of the landowners to give a voluntary easement. In Iowa alone, there have been almost 1,200 formal objections filed with the Iowa Utilities Board, an unprecedented number.

Chicago has no need of our power. The Great Lakes have loads of wind power, but the folks out there don’t want to see wind turbines offshore.

RICL wishes to scar our environment permanently.

Is it environmentally sound to put up hundreds of miles of line through others’ homes and businesses so a few people can make some money?

Don’t bet your money on the hope we will lose this battle. To learn more, visit iowastopricl.com
