Prairie Central school board learning about wind farm proposal

FAIRBURY – Livingston County’s search for clean energy will face the tests of the Prairie Central school board. The project, which is being set up by Invenergy, could add 136 wind turbines around the county.

Many will be near the prairie central school district. While the turbines could generate needed revenue for Prairie Central, the board will wrestle with issues like the new look around town if the turbines are added.

“Although they might even be convinced that there is some financial benefit for the school district, how long will that benefit last and when will the property owners have to pick up the other end of this?” said superintendent Dr. John Capasso.

Capasso says he’s heard different pitches around town for nearly a dozen years, but the Invenergy one seems to be the most serious yet.
