Hemswell Cliff wind farm would “rape Lincolnshire heritage”, council told

A Lincolnshire council will tell a public inquiry into a Hemswell wind farm plan that turbines would harm heritage and ruin views.

West Lindsey Council’s planning committee tonight unanimously passed a report setting out the authority’s objection to the controversial blueprint for eight turbines on Hemswell Cliff.

Revised plans show two fewer turbines than an application rejected by the committee last year.

Nearly 2,000 letters from irate residents have been sent to national planning chiefs, a meeting at Gainsborough’s Guildhall heard.

Hemswell Parish Council chairman Barry Dutton told the meeting that the farm would represent “the rape of Lincolnshire heritage.”

This was backed by Ernest Coleman, chairman of VOCAT (Villages of the Cliff Against Turbines), who said it would be “cultural vandalism on an industrial scale” if allowed.

The speakers highlighted the adverse affect the farm could have on the nearby Grade I listed building at Norton Place and archaeological interests, as well as the “desecration” of the landscape.

A public inquiry into the proposals will be held in January next year.
