Wind farm promoters using scare tactics?

Letter: Wind farm promoters using scare tactics? | Argus leader | September 15, 2014 | www.argusleader.com

To Southern Lincoln County landowners, I have numerous concerns about the extremely large wind farm proposed for our area, but one issue concerns me greatly.

The tactics being used to try to convince landowners to sign up their land for this wind farm are disturbing. Landowners are being told that all of the land around them has been signed, so they should sign up, too. In almost all instances, it is not true.

Are the wind farm promoters trying to scare landowners into signing up, or make them nervous that they will miss out on money? This started in early spring and still is happening today.

Next time you, as a landowner, are visited, ask to see a map. If the promoters deny your request, ask them why. I understand there needs to be an effort to gain more land for this project, but I do not understand why rumors need to be started. It is disheartening that business has to be done this way.

This wind farm is not a community-driven project. The vast majority of land and acreage owners in our area are opposed to it. The deadline to sign up land has come and gone many times. Let’s face it, there is no deadline in the near future.

The promoters will say just about anything and continue to give landowners inflated revenue numbers to get them to sign the 50-year irrevocable contract.

Landowners, please read the contract and have your lawyer review it before you sign.
