Woolbrook Wind Farm continues application process

By Kerrin Thomas | ABC News | 10 Sep 2014 | www.abc.net.au

The applicant of a wind farm at Woolbrook says the Environmental Impact Statement will be filed by November next year, but federal government decisions are likely to impact on investor confidence in such projects.

Newtricity Director Annmaree Lavery says the federal government’s review of the Renewable Energy Target is among the factors leading to uncertainty within the industry.

The company is preparing its application for the Woolbrook Wind Farm.

“It’ll be [lodged] next year sometime,” Ms Lavery said.

“We have to have it all lodged before the end of November next year, because you’ve got two years for the Director General’s Requirements from when they’re issued, to when it’s all meant to be lodged.

“So it will be before November next year, and hopefully much before November next year, it just depends on when all the work gets done for it.”

Ms Lavery says she doesn’t know what investor confidence will be like by the time the project is approved.

Work to date on the Woolbrook Wind Farm has been funded by an Irish backer.

“We’re still very much planning to go through the whole planning process and lodge a development application next year,” Ms Lavery said.

“But certainly my backers in Ireland are very aware of what’s going on in Australia and it may be that makes it more difficult for us to move ahead with building the Wind Farm eventually, because of the concern people have with what the government’s going to do.”
