Murton turbines are approved

Plans for a pair of 46m tall wind turbines near Murton White House Farm, Ancroft, have been approved by Northumberland County Council.

The application by Maden Eco Ltd was passed by the planning and environment committee by a 5-4 vote on Tuesday night, in line with officer recommendation.

The plans had split local opinion with 69 letters of objection, including one from Ord Parish Council, and 52 letters of support.

Opponents expressed concerns about the visual impact, noise, effect on tourism and wildlife, while supporters cited the environmental importance of renewable energy.

Planning officer Joe Nugent, in a report to members, said the views of the turbines from the A1 and A698 would be limited.

He also considered the proposal could be accommodated in the local and broader landscape without significant adverse impact.
