MARION – The Marion Planning Board, at its Aug. 18 meeting, approved a Marion Energy Management Committee (EMC) request to be informed of any alternative energy project – residential or commercial – that are proposed in the town.

The current process sees a project being brought forward to town and those officials who receive copies include the town consulting engineer, as well as the town conservation commission, zoning board of appeals, along with the planning board.

In a letter to the board, the EMC wanted to be included on the any installation of alternative energy equipment.

“The EMC should be included in these site plan applications,” Marion Planning Board member Eileen Marum said. “Whether its solar panels or wind turbines, the EMC should be included. This is their area of expertise and they are a very knowledgeable group and have done a lot to move Marion forward.”
