The Ohio Power Siting Board gave a company approval today to construct a windpark comprising up to 25 wind turbines in Greenwich Township.

A group of residents who live in the area, Greenwich Neighbors United, has expressed opposition to the project, citing concerns about noise, the negative health effects to which they say the turbines would expose them and concerns about wildlife.

Monica Jensen, vice president of development for Windlab, the company that will construct the windfarm, has said people live among wind turbines and “have no problems whatsoever.”

Duncan Estep, a Lorain County Community College associate professor who teaches engineering and alternative energy, has described the noise produced by the turbines as a “soft whoosh.”

The educator has also said there’s no reliable research to suggest that wind turbines can harm people’s health.
