FAIRHAVEN – Fairhaven Wind LLC has informed town officials about problems with the north turbine.

Sumul Shah wrote in an e-mail to town officials, “As you may be aware, we have been having problems with the power converter unit in the Fairhaven North turbine. While the turbine is fully able to produce power, it still continues to have problems synchronizing with the electric grid.”

Shah said, “We are continuing to evaluate all options including working with engineers from China, Wisconsin and Austria to assist in resolving this issue. Each night, our operators go through a very detailed set of instructions regarding components to be checked. Based on the test results from that night, various engineers are working on reviewing the data to make recommendations for components to be checked the following night.”

He said, “This process has been time consuming, but is the only way to fully evaluate each system and component.”

Shah said he “will continue to make you aware of our progress.” His e-mail was sent to selectmen and Board of Health.
