Wind turbine rejected

Plans for a 79-metre-high wind turbine at Holwell have been refused by Melton planners.
The scheme would have seen the structure erected in a field off Clawson Road.
But councillors agreed with a recommendation from planning officials to block the application on grounds that it would be detrimental to an area of open countryside and adversely impact on an adjacent grade two listed windmill.
Ab Kettleby Parish Council, which covers the site of the proposed turbine, registered its objection, as did parish councils for Long Clawson, Broughton and Dalby and Barkestone, Plungar and Redmile.
They opposed the scheme because they deemed it would have an adverse effect on an attractive area of landscape and this outweighed any benefits from the production of green energy on the site.
The site is currently used by applicant Geoff Skinner for pasture land. He stated in his plan that sufficient energy would be generated to power 540 homes every year.
