Inspector stops two turbines

Western Daily Press | August 11, 2014 | www.westerndailypress.co.uk

A second 250ft wind turbine appeal has been rejected by the Planning Inspectorate in the space of two days.

Last week inspector Philip Major dismissed an appeal by Murex Energy Ltd which had applied for a 77-metre high turbine, with a hub height of 50 metres, at Rifton Barton, Stoodleigh, north of Tiverton.

Mr Major threw out the appeal concluding the turbine’s “height and movement would significantly diminish the existing feeling of isolation and the deep rural ambience around the site”.

Now Murex’s proposals for an identical turbine at Ash Mill, near South Molton, have also been turned down.

This time planning inspector Simon Hand, who visited the site in June, said he was “not satisfied” the benefits of the renewable energy scheme “outweigh the harm identified” and he rejected the firm’s claim for costs against North Devon District Council
