Communes vote No but wind farm may go ahead

Anti-wind farm protesters in the Lot fear a five-turbine project above Sainte-Alauzie will go ahead despite its council and those of neighbouring Castelnau-Montratier and Sauveterre (Tarn) voting No.

The prefect will decide after a public inquiry next month.

Sainte-Alauzie resident Linda Crosbie said: “It is ridiculous. The local councils refused planning permission but we could still have these 150m wind turbines running along the hill above the town.

“They would be flickering in the sunlight and all the noise and disturbance would fall on us as they are not visible from the other communes.”

Mayor Bernard Resseguier said: “The prefect has all the power. People must put their views or this could go ahead. This is not a good area for wind power as the average wind speed ls too low: so, if approved, it will make neither energy nor money.

“But that does not matter to the promoters. They can sell it on to German investors who need a green energy site to offset carbon emissions.

“They Will buy into it and we will be stuck with useless turbines ruining our skyline.”
