Trying to stop wind turbines: Bluewater will go to Environmental Review Tribunal to stop 40 turbine proposal

With one wind farm now shooting the breeze in Bluewater, the municipality is going to the Environmental Review Tribunal trying to halt another.
Nextera’s Varna Wind Project has begun generating power in the municipality.
Another developer, Northland Power, is proposing the Grand Bend wind farm that will site 40 turbines on Bluewater soil.
Eight units would be in neighbouring communities.
Bruce Grant, Acting Chief Administrative Officer for Bluewater says councillors are proceeding with their objections to the Environmental Review Tribunal.
Grant says the ERT has set August 12th as the date for a preliminary hearing.
He says the Tribunal will determine whether there’s a case under the Green Energy Act at that time.
The Acting CAO says the Environmental Review Tribunal has also established September 8th as the start-date for three weeks of possible public hearings on the matter.
All sessions will be at the Stanley Complex in Varna.
Council spent ninety minutes in closed session talking strategy.
When members resumed their open session they passed two motions– one, to proceed with their challenge to the development, and two, to authorize the Municipality to foot the bill.
