Barcloy Hill wind farm rejected

BBC News | 17 July 2014 | www.bbc.co.uk

Councillors have rejected wind farm plans near Kirkcudbright which had generated almost 800 letters from opponents and supporters.

Planning officials had recommended refusal of the five-turbine scheme due to its impact on the landscape.

Renewable Energy Systems (RES) also wanted to build a substation and wind speed masts at Barcloy Hill.

More than 500 objections had been received but there had also been more than 200 expressions of support.

RES expressed its disappointment at the decision saying that the objections due to the effect on the landscape had not been shared by Scottish Natural Heritage.

It said it would be reviewing the council’s decision in more detail before considering the next step.
