Romanno Bridge wind farm plans lodged with council

An application for an eight-turbine wind farm near Rommano Bridge has been submitted to the council.
The Hag Law scheme has been put forward by West Coast Energy, and could see turbines up to 100m high built south east of the village.
The scheme has been gradually reduced in scale over three years, from 25 turbines up to 126m high to 11 turbines up to 110m and then to the final design.
The developer has stated: “The layout of the turbines within the site has been rationalised to reflect the landform of the site, and the height of the turbines is such that these reflect the scale of the local landscape and minimise the potential for significant adverse effects on visual amenity.”
West Coast Energy estimate the wind farm could generate electricity for almost 11,000 homes a year and provide 13 jobs during construction and ‘sustain’ a further three during operation.
The firm has stated that community projects would benefit from £3.2m of funding over the lifetime of the wind farm, and that way-marking, interpretation and general improvement works on the local paths network would also be carried out by the developer.
