Planners defer new wind farm refusal

Ballymena Times | 12 July 2014 | www.ballymenatimes.com

A decision by planners to refuse a six-turbine wind farm near Broughshane is to be deferred to allow the applicant to provide additional information on the proposal.

Cloghinarney Wind Farm Ltd’s application, which centred on lands east of Ballynulto Road, attracted 13 letters of objection, 12 letters of support and one petition of objection.

It proposed the creation of a windfarm development comprising six wind turbines and ancillary development.

Grounds for refusal by the Planning Service included the development’s potential to adversely impact on visual amenity and landscape character on the locality, including Slemish; and that it is “likely” to harm curlew and other wading birds.

At Ballymena Council’s planning committee on Thursday planners agreed to a one month deferral for further information at the request of council, subject to the agreement of the applicant.
