Is green energy worth the trouble?

LETTERS: Scituate's green projects; Arts Alive! | Jul. 12, 2014 | scituate.wickedlocal.com

During the Vietnam War, U.S. servicemen visiting Taiwan on R & R could purchase Chinese pirated record albums for around a dime apiece. Once back “in country,” they discovered the sound quality declined dramatically with each spin of the turntable. Resourceful GIs utilized tape decks to record the album’s initial play and then discarded the vinyl disks, which had turned to junk.

One has to wonder if Scituate’s well-intentioned, but poorly planned green energy experiment is experiencing a similar decline. Our wind turbine, manufactured by China’s Sinovel Wind Group Co. LTD, using stolen technology from Massachusetts company, AMSC, has run sporadically the past several months and appears to be experiencing major technical issues. Parent company Sinovel is evidently one step away from bankruptcy.

Decommissioning this white elephant might get a bit more complicated than using records for target practice. For the time being, anyway, folks in my neighborhood are sleeping soundly.
