Meridian Energy’s manager of markets and production (July 2) should not be the least surprised that complaints about west wind turbine noise have dropped to ”one or two a month”.
After all, what is the use of phoning a complaint line, and logging a complaint, when the reality is that under certain wind conditions, and unfortunately this means the prevailing northwesterly conditions, the turbines are noisy.
Meridian should have been honest and up front about that with residents from the very start of the project.
The ”sweetener” of a community fund might ease Meridian’s conscience, but is not an answer to the noise issue.
And simply leaving the area is not an option for everyone.
