Hundreds turn up at turbine protest

Bedford Today | 25 June 2014 | www.bedfordtoday.co.uk

Residents stood shoulder-to-shoulder with their MP in opposition to plans to build a wind farm on a popular viewpoint.

Mid Bedfordshire MP Nadine Dorries joined about 250 people from Cranfield and the surrounding villages to protest against plans to build six turbines at Brogborough landfill site in Marston Vale.

An air balloon was flown at 300ft to illustrate the height of the proposed turbines.

The demonstration was organised by the Against Cranfield Turbines group.

Chairman Sue Clark said: “It was fantastic so many people came along.

“It reinforces the strength of community opposition to these dreadful plans.

“The great pleasure we get from using this beautiful restored countryside will be destroyed if the turbines get the go ahead.”

Nadine Dorries added: “On a beautiful sunny morning, hundreds of residents assembled to view the position of the proposed wind turbines.

“Mock photographs used in literature and information were nothing short of duplicitous as they attempted to paint an entirely different picture, depicting the turbines to be much further away than is actually proposed.”

The planning application is due to be determined by Central Bedfordshire Council next Wednesday, July 2.

Council officers have recommended planning permission for the turbine scheme to be refused.
