Broken Bow II components misrouted

Sandhills Express | 6/23/2014 | www.sandhillsexpress.com

We brought you information last week about the wind turbine components arriving this week for Broken Bow Wind II. The press release from Sempra U.S. Gas & Power said the semis would be arriving from the east on Highway 70 and going north at Road 444.

Monday morning a semi carrying a large component came from the west on Highway 2 and attempted to make the turn at the Custer County Fairgrounds. The semi was stuck on the tracks because it couldn’t make the turn. When the cross arms came down because a train was approaching from the east one of the cross arms broke off. Witnesses say the train went in to emergency stop mode and the truck was able to back off of the tracks. The train stopped in the intersection. A second semi had trouble just after the first Monday morning. Apparently the permits that have been issued for these semis have them routing through this intersection.

The cross arms have been repaired but until the permits can be changed we can expect problems at that intersection, please be cautious.
