Lightning damages wind turbine

By Tribune Staff | Great Falls Tribune | June 21, 2014 | www.greatfallstribune.com

A lightning strike Friday evening damaged one of the wind turbines at the Horseshoe Bend Wind Park outside Great Falls.

A blade of a turbine was bent by the apparent strike.

The wind farm is owned by United Materials, a construction and aggregate company in Great Falls. According to United Materials’ website, the wind farm has an output of 10 megawatts of energy, which is enough to power about 2,400 homes for a year.

The wind park, which is composed of six turbines, was completed in 2006.
