Huron and Bruce anti wind turbine groups unite

By John Chippa on June 20, 2014 | blackburnnews.com

Three local anti-wind turbine groups are joining forces.

They have successfully argued to have their Divisional Court appeals co-joined. It will see a merger of Huron East Against Turbines, Huron-Kinloss Against Lakeside Turbines, and Safe Wind Energy for All Residents.

The groups have been fighting against the construction of wind farms near Goderich, St. Columban, and Kincardine.

At the heart of the legal action is a challenge under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

HALT President Kevin McKee says this action has the potential to shift the burden of proof from the need to prove direct serious harm to human health, to the need to prove the possibility of harm, a much lower and more reasonable threshold.

Dates to hear the appeal have been set for November 17, 18 and 19. A date for a co-joined stay of the K-2, St. Columban and Armow wind projects prior to the appeal in November has not been announced yet.
