Brunta Hill and Shawpark wind farm appeals rejected

Appeals by developers against the rejection of two proposed wind farms in the Scottish Borders have been refused.

The schemes at Brunta Hill near Westruther and Shawpark near Stow would have seen a total of 17 turbines constructed.

Scottish Borders Council rejected the developments but the companies behind them appealed against the decisions.

A Scottish government reporter examined both schemes and has now ruled that neither proposal can go ahead.

Councillors refused the Brunta Hill development due to its “significant and unacceptable” impact on the area.

The Scottish government agreed it was inconsistent with the local development plan.

Gemma Hamilton, PNE Wind UK’s project development manager, said it was “extremely disappointed” by the decision.
