County joins wind project appeal

By Lee Michaels on May 22, 2014 | blackburnnews.com

Lambton County Council has voted to join a private party in appealing Environment Ministry approval of the Jericho Wind Project.

Councillors are upset the Ontario Energy Board recently allowed NextEra to build a substation and 15 km of transmission lines for the 92 turbine project, even though the County was still compiling public input and had not signed a deal with the company.

Mayor Mike Bradley says councillors must listen to the concerns of ratepayers.

An Environment Review Tribunal hearing on potential health impacts of the NextEra Energy project will be held June 26.

If it rules the giant turbines could affect the health of both humans and animals, the MOE could be ordered to revoke its approval.
