Wind turbines vs your home

Posted by Paul Shaw | May 20, 2014 | portsmouth.patch.com

The state of Rhode Island wants to promote the development of commercial wind energy in the state, with the goal of meeting 15% of the state’s electrical consumption with wind energy.

Today land based wind turbines stand 440 feet tall, with a diameter spanning 540 feet. Another way to put it is it’s the size of a Boeing 747 standing on its tail in your back yard.

Commercial wind turbine progress towards the renewable energy goal has been very slow. Wind energy proposals have strong public support except encounter strong opposition when they are built within 3000 feet of residential locations. In other words commercial wind turbines are great as long as its Not In My Back Yard. NIMBY is the term used by wind turbine contractors to belittle wind turbine victims.

The down side of commercial wind turbines is they give off two types of noise. Regulatory noise in decibels and infra sound. The turbines also produce shadow flicker as the sun rises and sets. Some people like the way the turbines look and there are others who think they look like a giant tooth brush sticking out of a toilet upside down in their back yard.

NIMBY in Rhode Island today has a new meaning ; Next It May Be You.

The Liberal news media does not print bad news about commercial wind turbines only good news.

These giant wind turbines have catastrophic failures within 3 to 5 years of installation.

We see the Portsmouth High School wind turbine siting there broken for well over two years. How does that help the real estate value of your home ?

The state of Rhode Island takes the view people who dislike the turbines move away and those that are indifferent or even enjoy the turbines move near. Do you know anyone looking to move near a 440 commercial wind turbine making that slushing sound in your house with shadow flicker every day ?

My suggestion is that as soon as there is a wind turbine proposal near you sell your home as fast as you can. Don’t wait. Your home may be all the savings you have.
