Police are hunting vandals who brought down and destroyed a 40m mast used to measure wind speeds on a hilltop north of Dumfries.
The incident happened at Auchenra Hill near Guillyburn in Kirkmahoe some time between 2 May and 16 May.
Police said the mast, which had an estimated value of £15,000, had been damaged beyond repair.
The masts are generally used to measure wind speeds to check a location’s suitability for turbines.
Police said they had not ruled out possible links to anti-wind farm protesters and were seeking information about any suspicious activity around other such masts.
