NextEra discontinues wind project

NextEra Energy Resources has advised Mason County officials of their decision to discontinue the possibility of constructing a wind energy project in Mason County after four years of analysis and expenditure of resources.
Studies were first conducted in Germantown, and most recently, have allegedly been conducted in the Sardis area of the county.
The company sited newly enacted Kentucky Legislative House Bill 291, which required energy companies to “fully inform landowners and other interested parties of the full extent of the project being considered, along with a project deadline” and the intention of the Mason County Joint Planning Commission to draft recommendations on zoning restrictions of energy projects in the county.
