Decision made over Maesbury Quarry turbine

Wells Journal | May 15, 2014 | www.wellsjournal.co.uk

An appeal over plans for a wind turbine at Maesbury Quarry has been thrown out.

Mendip District Council confirmed that the appeal regarding a 103-metre turbine had been rejected by a Government planning inspector.

The spokeswoman added that another application for a turbine not far from the Maesbury Quarry had also been dismissed.

Plans to put up the turbine at the quarry were turned down by Mendip District Council in August, leading to an appeal by site owner Guy Calder.

Fierce opposition had been given to the application by residents who live near the site.

It became the centre of media attention after planning inspector Paul Griffiths, nicknamed “Inspector Blight” by The Sunday Times, was handed the case earlier on in the year.
