Commissioner Pusley opposed to wind farm

CORPUS CHRISTI – Opposition continues to build against a proposed wind farm on the far southside of Corpus Christi.

You can now add Nueces County Commissioner Mike Pusley to the list of those opposed to the idea of turbines. “Wind farms are appropriate in some places. This is not an appropriate place for a wind farm.”

Pusley is pushing a resolution to block a wind turbine development on Chapman Ranch by Virginia-based Apex Wind Energy.

It’s a two-pager with a long list of concerns such as the site being between Naval Air Station Corpus Christi and Naval Air Station Kingsville, and a fear the large turbines will screw up radar over at Corpus Christi International Airport.

The resolution being presented on Wedneday shows one thing very clearly, wind, just like oil and gas, is quickly becoming a commodity. And there’s very little regulating it in the State of Texas.

Pusley’s resolution would block Apex access to county-owned utility easements and right of ways. And that’s it. Like the city, Nueces County commissioners don’t have the legal power to do anything else.

The problem will remain the weak link in this ongoing war of words over green energy’s future in our backyard.

“We need to have the state legislature step up to the plate in this next session and give communities and local governmental entities the power to at least say how these are going to be put in their communities and how it’s going to impact their communities,” says Pusley.

Full disclosure here: KRIS Communications is one of the television and radio broadcasters whose concerns about signal interference are also mentioned in the resolution.
