More than 2,600 submissions delivered to council on wind farms

Campaigners delivered more than 2,600 submissions on proposed changes to wind farm planning regulations to Donegal County Council.

Ernan O’Donnell, chairperson of the Glenties Wind Farm Information Group (GWIG), said he did not expect the level of response.

“It was surprising, very surprising,” he said. “Most of them said two years ago they wouldn’t have been as aware.”

Mr. O’Donnell said the level of support for proposals GWIG has promoted reflects the depth of interest across the county. He has called on local election candidates to state their position on the proposals.

The campaigners delivered the submissions at the end of a month-long public consultation on a variation to the county development plan regarding the location of wind turbines.
