Councillors throw out proposal for new wind turbine

Banbury Guardian | 03 May 2014 | www.banburyguardian.co.uk

Cherwell District Council has rejected plans to build a 77-metre high wind turbine in Mollington.

The decision, made last Thursday, rejected the plan for a single wind turbine and an access track on March Road, Mollington.

The planning committee received more than 350 letters of objection which said the turbine would cause harm to the Grade 1 registered parkland at Farnborough Hall and surrounding countryside.

Letters of objection were received from residents, Mollington Parish Council and English Heritage.

Bob Duxbury, the council’s development control team leader, said: “While the turbine would bring benefits of renewable energy, this would not significantly outweigh the damage caused to the historical enviroment.”

The turbine was due to be built 750 metres away from Mollington and two miles from Farnborough Hall.

The application received only two letters of support.

Murex Energy Limited said it submitted the plans to assist in producing low carbon energy.

Mr Duxbury said: “Members of the committee were concerned about the impact of the proposal for the safety of horses and riders, avaiation safety at Shotteswell Airfield and the impact on the surrounding landspace.”
