Council give green light for Rasharkin substation

Ballymoney Times | 28 April 2014 | www.ballymoneytimes.co.uk

As predicted by the Ballymoney and Moyle Times last week, councillors have approved plans for a new wind farm cluster substation on the outskirts of Rasharkin.

The controversial proposal on land 300m west of 269 Finvoy Road was previously deferred by councillors despite Planning Service approval. However during last Monday’s Planning Service meeting, Cllr Cathal McLaughlin advised that an agreement had been reached on the future of Rasharkin Flying Club.

Cllr McLaughlin also explained that he and the constituent had therefore withdrawn their objections. He then suggested that the original planning recommendation to approved should be processed, bringing investment and jobs to the north Antrim area.

The planning officer advised that one objection still remained on file, but they were content to take council’s corporate view on the application since they had placed it on the agenda. Mayor Cllr John Finlay then proposed, and Cllr McLaughlin seconded, and it was unanimously agreed to accept the Planning Service recommendation to approve the application.
