NextEra forms community group; Wind company seeks residents to sit on Community Liaison Community

(Durham ) – NextEra Energy is looking for volunteers to join a Community Liaison Committee that will gather feedback on the multi-million dollar project.

It’s expected the group will hold four public meetings over the next two years, and report back to NextEra on issues involving construction, installation, operation and retirement of the East Durham Wind Energy centre.

The first meeting is likely in late July.

Communications specialist with NextEra Energy, Josie Bird, says the Liaison committee will operate as a go-between, as concerns expressed by the public will be gathered and given to company officials.

Development of the East Durham Wind Energy Centre began in 2006.

The 14 turbine wind energy project is expected to have a maximum generating capacity of up to 23-megawatts.

That would produce enough energy for approximately 6,000 homes in Ontario.

Bird says they need about 14 people to join the committee, so they have a broad and balanced perspective to the project.

Anyone interested in volunteering, can call the Facilitator, Avril Fisken at 519-840-2260 or email here at avril.fisken@aecom.com.
