Credit:  GRETTA BECAY | April 25, 2014 | www.postbulletin.com ~~

Justin Markel, development manager for RES America Development Inc., owner of Pleasant Valley Wind LLC, was at Tuesday’s Dodge County Board meeting to update commissioners on a large wind project being built in Dodge and Mower counties.

Only 12 of the project’s 100 turbines will be in Dodge County.Markel said the company hopes to begin construction on June 1. A pre-construction hearing will be 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. May 13 at the Oaks Golf Club in Hayfield.

Markel said RES America Development Inc. will give the Department of Commerce an update on Monday, including the commissioners’ approval that County Engineer Guy Kohlnhofer continue to work with RES on a joint development and road use agreement.

Commissioners were told that because the project is so large, it falls outside the county planning and zoning authority and is under the control of the state Public Utilities Commission, except for road use and repair. According to information given the commissioners, RES is expecting to start construction of accesses, roads and tower bases this year and to build the towers in 2015.
