Missouri Farm Bureau says ‘no’ to electric line project

The Missouri Farm Bureau’s board of directors voted to intervene in the Grain Belt Clean Line challenge before the Missouri Public Service Commission.

The bureau opposes the Houston, Texas-based company’s use of eminent domain to build an electric transmission line it plans to build across northeast Missouri, including in Randolph, Monroe and Ralls counties.

The 750-mile transmission line would stretch from a wind farm in Kansas to Indiana.

MFB president Blake Hurst called the use of land a regulatory abuse.

“Our board of directors consulted with county farm bureau leaders and voted to oppose eminent domain authority for the GBE project,” he said. “The benefits claimed by the developers absolutely do not justify the granting of eminent domain to the newly-formed company selling electricity to out of state customers.”
