Farm Bureau to oppose Grain Belt Express

The Missouri Farm Bureau board has voted to act as an intervenor in the Grain Belt Express electric transmission case before the state’s utility commission.

Grain Belt has filed with the Missouri Public Service Commission for utility status and approval of a route for the proposed line.

In a statement issued Wednesday, Farm Bureau said it opposes granting eminent domain to the company for the project. Clean Line plans to build the 750-mile system from a western Kansas wind farm and on through parts of northern Missouri, including Buchanan County.

Farm Bureau President Blake Hurst said the board consulted with county leaders prior to the vote.
