Shropshire kennels couple’s delight as wind turbines are rejected

The owners of a Shropshire rescue kennels today spoke of their delight after plans to build two 100ft turbines close by were rejected.

Sue and Mal Tipton thought their family business would suffer when proposals were put forward to build turbines to the east of the kennels and Shrewsbury Golf Club.

But the controversial scheme received more then 100 objections from residents and organisations, including the Ministry of Defence and England Golf, and was thrown out by Shropshire Council planners.

Mr and Mrs Tipton, who run Moorland Kennels and Greyhound rescue, said they could not be more relieved. They feared the noise from the turbines could “distress” nervous rescue dogs in their care.

Mrs Tipton said: “I cannot explain how relieved we are, and also how grateful for all the support we have received from everyone. I think the petition we had must have got about 150 names and there was also an online petition.

“It was a massive worry for such a long time because we’re really passionate about what we do and the kennels is also our livelihoods.”

The couple run Moorlands with the help of part-time staff, and as well as caring for people’s pets they also take in rescue dogs.

Mrs Tipton said: “The noise was a massive concern because the dogs may have become distressed really quickly, and they need peace and quiet so we can rehabilitate them. We also have the boarding kennels and some of our customers raised concerns as to whether they would board with us in the future.”

The bid by Urban Wind, was turned down by Shropshire Council officers who said insufficient information was provided on several counts.
