Anxiety over wind farms

Kirriemuir Herald | 09 April 2014 | www.kirriemuirherald.co.uk

Anxiety is building in the Angus Glens over what some see as a “proliferation” of wind farm proposals for the area.

In order to gauge public opinion and to devise a strategy for moving forward, a public meeting will be held in Glenisla Village Hall on Thursday (tomorrow) at 7 p.m.

Local resident Dr Mike Morris explained: “The Angus Glens (Glen Clova, Glen Esk, Glen Lethnot, Glen Prosen and Glenisla) were referred to in the past and in promotional material as the five fingers of a giant’s hand. Unfortunately these beautiful fingers are not only becoming scarred but they are pointing these scars at other areas such as the Cairngorm National Park.”

There are presently six current or proposed wind farm developments for the glens and as a result, communities along the Perth and Kinross and Angus border will meet tomorrow to consider the threat posed to their landscape by windfarm developments.

Dr Morris continued: “Residents of Lintrathen, Kilry and Glenisla want to oppose the excessive planned wind farm developments. We have organised a public meeting to discuss the proliferation of the wind farm to decide how the community should respond.”
