Hemingford wind turbine is approved

Campaigners opposing a wind turbine at a chicken farm next to the A14 at Hemingford Grey are claiming a partial victory, even though it has been given the go-ahead.

People living near the farm at Galley Hill objected to the turbine on safety grounds because they thought it would distract drivers on the A14 and would also be a hazard if it suffered a mechanical failure.

Huntingdonshire District Council’s Development Management Panel has now approved the turbine.

Esther Harrod, one of the campaigners, said they remained concerned about safety issues.

She added: “However, we do see the end result as a victory because the original planning application in 2011 was for a 254ft turbine. Boparan-2 Sisters Food Group have been forced to reduce it to 138ft, so the turbine will now be 116ft less in height than originally proposed.”
