Wind farm protest

Member for Monaro John Barilaro met with fellow constituents at Red Hill on Tuesday, April 11 to protest against the development of wind farms in regional NSW which are aimed at feeding the ACT’s renewable energy target.

He was joined by state members Katrina Hodgkinson and Pru Goward as well as Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor and Mulwaree Mayor Geoff Kettle.

“Each of us represents electorates which stand to be deeply affected by the ACT Government’s current wind farm obsession,” Mr Barilaro said.

The ACT Government hopes to feed 90 percent of the capital with renewable energy by 2020 but Mr Barilaro said they should look elsewhere to reach that target.

“The ACT Government should not be looking to use properties of NSW residents to meet its renewable energy obligations.”

Just two weeks ago Mr Barilaro said the capital was turning regional NSW into the “ACT’s Junkyward”.

He has been staunchly opposed to the development of new farms in his electorate and has made clear his opposition to the current state of the wind turbine industry in Australia. He believes it is overly reliant on subsidies and government handouts.
