Concern one turbine will ‘open floodgates’

Residents in South Elkington have voiced their concerns over a proposed single wind turbine at Church Top Farm, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

The plans, put forward by G & B Dobson Ltd, will see them apply to East Lindsey District Council for a single 30 metre high wind turbine, with a tip height of 45 metres, to allow the local farm to generate electricity. However, some nearby residents are concerned that it would be used as a litmus test to introduce more.

One resident commented to the Leader: “If it goes ahead, it will open the floodgates to many more similar developments. This is just another turbine in an already crowded county.”

Further concerns were raised after the official notice about the plans was discovered on a piece of laminated paper, tied with baler twine, at a public footpath on a no-entry road. The notice, dated March 22, said that any comments for consideration would have to be submitted to Earthmill Ltd by April 5.

In a letter to the Leader, Chair of South Elkington Parish Council, Toby Parker, raised another concern and said: “The acoustic engineers have deemed that the turbine could be placed at a distance of no closer than 450 metres to the nearest dwelling. Research has shown that 1000 metres is a more commonly used distance.”
