Urges all to attend May meeting on wind farms

Lewistown Sentinel | April 3, 2014 | lewistownsentinel.com

An Earth Science text book I read stated how Jacks Mountain is 100 miles of beauty. Do you realize this millions-of-years-old folded ridge and valley section we live in is very unique in this world and once destroyed with the top knocked off nearly 100 feet, can never come back? As we try to promote the special natural beauty of our area, there are those poised to destroy it- forever. Wind farms’ destruction can never be put back. It will be there after the subsidies have dried up and the wind turbines are decaying away.

Our wind efficiency in our area, according to the U.S. Department of Energy, is 0 to 300, at most, on a scale of 0 to 800. With almost no wind efficiency, why would they want to spend all that money to build turbines on Jacks and Stone Mountain except to harvest tax credits?

These companies have come here because our government is funding them with tax credits almost 100 times more than what we are presently paying our energy producers. Ask yourself why they are here – to harvest inefficient wind or our hefty tax credits? Can we afford that with our tax dollars and the money our government is borrowing to do it? And, can you afford to pay more for your electrical energy?

I have joined Save Our Allegheny Ridges, S.O.A.R., hoping to help prevent this. I hope you will, too. People can visit SaveJacksMountain.org (free membership) and www.saveouralleghenyridges.org (a donation required to help fund printing and meeting expenses), but all interested citizens are welcome to come to meetings.

There will be a public informational meeting in May. Please watch for it and attend.
