Group to protest planned energy network

Area residents opposed to plans for a wind energy transmission project will gather in Faucett, Mo., this evening to air their grievances.

Members of Block Grain Belt Express-Missouri will meet at 7 p.m. at the Lions Club building in Faucett. The club is located just west of the truck stop.

Block Grain Belt Express-Missouri said it opposes the project from occurring anywhere in the state. The session is part of a series of informational meetings aimed at building support for the movement.

Clean Line Energy Partners intends to construct a wind-powered, 700-mile, 3,500-megawatt direct current transmission line over Northeast Kansas and Northwest Missouri. The company said the project is justified by a need among eastern states for additional electric power.

Opponents contend in part that the transmission line will decrease property values and that none of the electricity produced will benefit the region. They also believe the line will result in adverse health effects.
