Tall turbines

Kent County News | April 1, 2014 | www.myeasternshoremd.com

The 500-foot wind turbine location cited in the front page article March 27, is between state routes 213 and 291, southeast of Kennedyville about 2 to 3 miles away.

Without a photo, it’s hard to realize the visual impact of turbines and towers in our rural area. For an eye-popping comparison of this height to a typical farm building and silo, see www.northeastwindmills.com.

The tip of these blades can be seen from about 33 miles away, and assuming a blade diameter of 400 feet, the turbine hub can be seen from as far away as 23 miles, from Kent Island to Elkton.

Development of this scale in view of our Chesapeake Country Byway (Route 213) for its entire length will destroy the scenic beauty of this treasure winding through our county, and so important in attracting tourism and its economic rewards.
